I am excited to be fronting and bringing NZ's first HeadSpa to Zaibatsu. We have teamed up with Oway, a 100% organic & sustainable premium Italian product that is formulated based on the most advanced green and clean chemistry principles.

Together with my Diploma in Stress Management & Remedial Massage Therapy, I have worked in this dynamic industry for over 15 years. There was a gap in the market for a HeadSpa because we all need a way to unwind and de-stress and who doesn’t love a lengthy scalp massage! I find it so rewarding combining my passion to help clients look and feel incredible whilst assisting in relieving targeted pain in a non-invasive, therapeutic way.

At Zaibatsu's HeadSpa, you have the choice to incorporate scalp massage, face, neck etc. Or rectifying hair and scalp issues using quality organic products for lasting relief while relaxing on our specially designed reclining chair and ergonomic head rest imported from Korea.

Master Stylist

Bernice the Hair Stylist - that’s me!  It’s all I ever wanted to be at 5 years old, I just knew!  I consider myself extremely lucky to ‘never have to go to work’ as hairdressing is my passion, my hobby and calm place.

I have over 20 years experience and love cutting, colouring and all aspects of hairdressing - creating up-styles for weddings and special occasions.  I am also trained in extensions and scalp micro-pigmentation (hair tattooing).

I’m from the UK and my husband and I have chosen to move to Dunedin with our two cats. We are so excited to be starting a new life in NZ.

The opportunities at Zaibatsu are fantastic, the salon is beautiful and that view    …WOW!

Jess is one of our amazing Senior Stylists at Zaibatsu, in 2018 Jess was a finalist for Wella Trend Vision.

Jess has a passion for experimenting with bold and bright colours and is never afraid to get her hands dirty. We're so happy to have Jess in our Zaibatsu family.

Zaibatsu Hair Art is such a creative and inviting place to work. The Zaibatsu family never fail to make everyday an exciting one. Being so close to the beach is always a plus.

Jess is another of our amazing stylists here at Zaibatsu who started as one of our apprentices. Always up for a laugh, Jess has a very bright future ahead of her within the hair industry.

Since Jess was nine years old she wanted to become a hairdresser. She loves the high level of creativity within the industry and Zaibatsu has been the perfect place to develop this further.

Zaibatsu Hair Art is such an innovative salon. I love being able to work with such friendly talented people that make me enjoy everyday at work. I’m constantly learning something new and I couldn’t think of a better place to be.

Senior Stylist

Heya my name is Sara and I have been hairdressing nearly ten years.  My passion is blondes and balayage as I love being able to customise colour to each of my clients individual needs.

I also enjoy being a part of anyone’s special day - weddings and formals, creating beautiful looks to make you look and feel fab!!

In my downtime you will find me out exploring Dunedin with my two young boys, partner and dogs.  I also love pottering away at home.

Intermediate Stylist

Zoe is another member of the Zaibatsu family who started with us after doing work experience in our salon in 2020, and is now an emerging stylist. She is excited for her hairdressing journey ahead!

Why do you love hairdressing and working at Zaibatsu?

For as long as I can remember I have loved walking down the street and seeing everyones different hairstyles and hair colours, no matter how obvious or subtle. I loved seeing different people express themselves and being able to see the confidence that came with their hair.  So for me becoming a Hairdresser and being a part of this process daily has given me so much pride, passion and drive for my future and I feel very privileged and lucky to begin my career at Zaibatsu.
I have also always enjoyed the freedom to be creative and any opportunity to talk, laugh and listen to others and I felt like Hairdressing has both these aspects.
I feel like Zaibatsu has given me the perfect environment to become the best I can be as I’m surrounded by encouraging, skilful and patient mentors who have already shown and taught me so much. 

Emerging Stylist

Eilish joined the Zaibatsu family after doing work experience in our salon in 2020 and has been hooked on hairdressing ever since!  She loves meeting new clients, learning new skills and being part of our wonderful team.

Eilish is beyond excited to be able to continue onto her second year of her apprenticeship within the Zaibatsu family.

Why do you love hairdressing and working at Zaibatsu Hair Art?

I love working at Zaibatsu as it gives me a chance to express my creativity, as well as giving back to members of our community by having the ability to make them feel really good about themselves!  I also have so many wonderful opportunities to learn and be taught amazing skills from the Zaibatsu team, and I love working with such fun and kind individuals.

Training Apprentice

I’ve always loved talking to people and helping them express themselves and make them feel more confident, hairdressing is the perfect industry for me to achieve this. I enjoy all aspects of hairdressing, my favourites are  styling naturally curly hair and  colouring.

At Zaibatsu everyone is so helpful and skilful in their own ways, and having the beach right outside brings a great atmosphere to the salon. I’m so excited to be a part of the Zaibatsu family and have the opportunity to meet all clients and build relationships.
